Originally, I had planned to book through 🐷 or 🍊, but the cost for a three-deck yacht was around 350-450 yuan per person, which seemed a bit steep. Additionally, the weather was uncertain, and since it was during the May Day holiday, I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to form a group. So, I decided to compare prices in Hanoi before making any bookings.

I stumbled upon a travel agency near my hotel and inquired about the rates. To my surprise, they offered the same package for just 900,000 VND per person, saving me over 100 yuan. Without hesitation, I booked for the next day. The tour included a group of foreigners, and they even offered a convenient pickup service right from the hotel.

It was amusing to find out that some of the foreigners in the group had paid 70 USD, likely similar to our 🐷 situation, which made me feel like I got a great deal!

If you’re heading to Halong Bay, don’t forget to pack some mosquito repellent. As soon as we arrived on the island, the mosquitoes were out in full force. There are two islands that require climbing, so if you plan to explore, make sure to wear appropriate footwear. Flip-flops might not be the best choice for these adventures.

I totally get why you went with a local agency instead of booking online—it sounds like the prices were much better that way. I also think traveling during holidays can be tricky because of the crowds, so finding a group made sense. Did you end up having a good experience with the agency?
That’s a smart move to wait and compare prices locally! I remember when I visited Halong Bay, the smaller boats were much more affordable and still offered beautiful views. Just be sure to double-check reviews of the agency you choose, especially during peak times like May Day. Happy travels!
Thanks for sharing your experience! Agree, smaller boats can offer great value without compromising on beauty. Always wise to check reviews, especially during busy holidays. Safe travels to you too!
Good tips for budget travelers! Forming a group to split costs can really save money, especially during peak times. I’ll keep that in mind if I visit Hanoi and Halong Bay.
