I embarked on a two-day tour from Hanoi with Flying Pig, and my biggest regret was not opting for a Chinese-speaking guide. This meant I spent two days straining to understand English, only to end up more confused than when I started [Facepalm R]. The first day, however, was a visual treat. The landscape was stunning, often referred to as the “Guilin of the sea.

” Unfortunately, the second day’s boat ride was rather underwhelming. The weather didn’t cooperate, staying overcast throughout, which meant I missed out on both the sunset and sunrise. In hindsight, a one-day tour would have been more than sufficient. The accommodation on the boat was quite pricey, and shelling out extra for a single room supplement felt like a real waste.

I totally get why a Chinese-speaking guide would’ve made a difference! The scenery does sound breathtaking, though—too bad the weather ruined the second day. At least you still have those amazing photos to remind you of the first day!
