Hoi An Ancient Town, nestled about 30 kilometers from Da Nang, offered me an unforgettable adventure, thanks to my friend’s sister who whisked me around on her motorcycle. It was an incredibly delightful experience! The first snapshot I took was of a temple, where the couplets were particularly intriguing.

I found them almost reminiscent of liberation theology, and they truly captivated me. Not only are the people in Vietnam notably slender, but even the cats seem to have caught the same elegant, lean vibe—quite amusing, really!

Hoi An is rich with history, boasting numerous guildhalls left by Chinese immigrants, as well as ancient buildings that exude a unique charm. The blend of architectural styles and cultural influences creates a fascinating tapestry. For an even more enchanting experience, try a boat ride on the river at night. The gentle sway of the water and the soft glow of lanterns make for a magical and serene journey.

That sounds like such a unique way to explore Hoi An! I never thought about the connection between Vietnamese temple couplets and liberation theology, but it makes sense. The slim cats are hilarious too—must be all that street food they’re missing out on!
