Picking up where the last post left off, my friend came to Peru for a week, and over the weekend, I decided to take her on an exhilarating adventure in Huaraz. For the second day, I planned a trek to Lake 69. The entire trail spans 14 kilometers round trip, lasting around 6-7 hours, with paths that wind through two mountain crossings and vast stretches of flat terrain.

While the second mountain may only span about 1 kilometer, it takes more than an hour to conquer, as the altitude makes every step increasingly challenging. You practically need to pause for 2-3 minutes after each minute of walking just to catch your breath. But once you reach Lake 69, its striking ice-blue waters feel like a balm for all the effort you’ve poured into the journey.

On the descent, we retraced our steps, but due to the tour’s strict time constraints, we barely dared to stop, and by the time we reached the bottom, we were utterly spent. To make matters worse, the tour only included breakfast, leaving us both famished and fatigued during the latter part of the hike.

In my opinion, this trek ranks as moderately to highly demanding in terms of physical strength and endurance.
