I spent an entire week immersed in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, a journey that left me in awe of its raw beauty. Venturing into this ancient jungle, I encountered an incredible array of plants and wildlife, including snakes and insects. Yet, most of these creatures remained elusive, skillfully concealed from view, while we were constantly besieged by relentless mosquitoes.

The climate was oppressively hot and humid, though truthfully, it wasn’t too dissimilar from Shenzhen during the summer months. Overall, my experience was wonderful, but I couldn’t help feeling that too much time was spent traveling—both by boat and car—when I would have much preferred to be trekking deeper into the lush rainforest.

It may sound like a paradox, but diving headfirst into nature often makes you truly appreciate the conveniences of urban life. After spending so long surrounded by cityscapes, one naturally yearns for the tranquility of the wild. However, if asked where I’d rather call home, the answer remains undeniably the city. Despite this, I deeply admired the passion our guide had for the rainforest; interestingly, his family resides in Cusco, far removed from this untamed wilderness.
