✈️ Transportation & Entry:
International flight: Fly from Beijing to Lima with a transit in Paris, taking approximately 30 hours. This route offers the best value for your money.
Within South America: We recommend LATAM Airlines for its superior comfort compared to Skyline. They are more relaxed about backpacks and offer the convenience of early check-in via their app.
Entry: No special requirements are needed for Peru. Upon entering Chile, you will receive a PDI (Policía de Investigaciones) card, which must be presented upon departure. Make sure to keep it safe.

💡 Practical Tips:
SIM Card: Purchase a universal South American SIM card on Taobao. The signal is stable throughout the trip, ensuring you stay connected.
Currency Exchange: Bring a moderate amount of US dollars, which can be exchanged at the airport or in Plaza de Armas. Most places accept credit cards, so exchange as needed.
Taxis: Use Uber and Didi for reliable transportation. Note that Uber is banned in Chile, so it’s best to catch a taxi from the departure level at the airport. Taxis are scarce in Puerto Natales, so be prepared to wait up to 20 minutes.

👁️ City Impressions:
1️⃣ Lima👋🏼
Lima can be a bit underwhelming, especially when compared to the vibrant Cusco. However, the sunset by the coastline is absolutely breathtaking and worth experiencing.
2️⃣ Cusco🌄
Cusco is the heart of South America, with an almost surreal beauty. We spent four full days here, and while altitude sickness gave us a mild headache on the second day, it was manageable. Next time, we’ll be better prepared!
3️⃣ Machu Picchu🦙
A one-day round trip to Machu Picchu is entirely doable, though it can be tiring. Depart at 3 AM and return by 9 PM. Book your tickets and bus passes well in advance, as the popular routes 2B and 3A often sell out months ahead.
4️⃣ Santiago✍️
Start your day with a peaceful climb up San Cristobal Hill. The city seems to be filled with cyclists and dog walkers, creating a serene atmosphere. Be cautious in the city center, particularly around Plaza de Armas, where robberies are common. Don’t miss the free cherry tasting; it’s a delightful treat!
5️⃣ Puerto Natales 🌊
This charming town was my favorite stop on the trip, with a vibe reminiscent of Northern Europe. As a gateway to Torres del Paine, it’s the perfect place to prepare for your hikes. A one-way bus ride to the park takes about two hours.
6️⃣ Torres del Paine National Park 🥾
There are three main ways to explore Torres del Paine:
1. Stay inside the park and hike the W or O circuit. Campsite accommodations need to be booked well in advance and can be pricey, but the experience is unforgettable.
2. Base yourself in the town and take a day bus round trip to the park. Hike to the Towers, a must-see, even though the climb is strenuous. The views are absolutely worth it.
3. Join a tour group from the town. There are many travel agencies offering last-minute tours, allowing you to rest on the bus and enjoy the scenic spots. Some tours also include glacier excursions.

🪐 The colors of Patagonia are simply mesmerizing, the wild howling wind is invigorating, and the last rays of the setting sun, the vast sky, and the rolling clouds within it create a truly exhilarating experience.

🌍 My goal is to journey to South America annually; there’s an irresistible allure in the distant and the unknown. In those far-off lands, the distinction between what holds profound meaning and what seems trivial blurs into a fascinating tapestry of experiences.
