Reborn as a cleaner in New Zealand.
Based on my English level,
I had already decided while I was still in China
that I could only find jobs with low language barriers after coming here.
For example, cleaning, working in Chinese restaurants, or lawn mowing.

I’m quite interested in cleaning and lawn mowing,
of course, I’m even more interested in construction,
but without experience and language skills, that’s even harder.

The house I rented has a rather dilapidated yard,
and I’ve been helping the landlord tidy it up for free.
I’ve always admired the standalone houses with yards in New Zealand,
so I’m quite happy to tidy up the yard.

The cleaning job at this motel was advertised by the boss in a group,
so I joined, but then they said they had already filled the positions.
A couple of days later, they asked if I was still interested and wanted to give it a try.

However, my concern was
that I had no experience and no tools.
The boss said they could provide training and that I didn’t need to bring my own tools.

This morning, I went there at 8:30 and worked until 12:00.
The boss’s wife took me and two other employees.
One was a Chinese man, and the other was a Korean woman.
It was just the normal hotel checkout process,
I was criticized twice: for being slow and not perceptive.
Other than that, the boss’s wife was very nice.
She taught me step by step.
By the end of the day, I was pretty familiar with the work,
I just need to speed up,
it wasn’t physically tiring.
After finishing, she asked me to come back tomorrow,
to bring my tax number and bank account number to sign the contract.
It’s not a full-time job, more like on-call whenever needed.
But having found a job five months after landing here,
I can also gain some work experience and income,
which is great.
Good for me! [Thumbs up]
