This time, we opted for the Sovereign, a large and comfortable boat. We had initially considered following the front desk staff’s advice to upgrade to a smaller, more intimate vessel for an additional $80, which also included what looked like a sumptuous meal. However, since our journey began in Te Anau, switching to the smaller boat would have left us without a return bus option. Reluctantly, we decided to stick with the original plan.

As we first boarded the boat, the rain was pouring down heavily. After a while, when the rain temporarily ceased, everyone eagerly made their way up to the deck. The rain continued to come and go, but as we approached the largest waterfall (pictures 1-3), many people were so captivated that they didn’t even mind getting drenched. Cheers and camera clicks filled the air, capturing the exhilarating moment. It was truly an unforgettable experience!

I totally agree about visiting on a rainy day—it’s amazing how the waterfalls look with all that rain! The waterproof gear is a must, and I also recommend bringing gloves to keep your hands warm while taking photos.
