What sets Milford Sound apart is the lush, verdant forests that cloak the steep cliffs on either side of the fjord. As you venture deeper, the dense forest abruptly gives way to a dramatic cliff face, carved by ancient glaciers. This abrupt change creates a mesmerizing waterfall, where the river plunges into the fjord below.
The drive to Milford Sound was filled with anticipation. Despite the rain, the moment we arrived, the skies cleared. The true magic of Milford Sound, however, is best experienced when it’s misty and rainy, creating an ethereal, almost otherworldly atmosphere. It felt like we were witnessing the end of the world, but in the most beautiful way possible. Thankfully, the overcast and misty conditions made for a truly enchanting visit
