This is not the Mount Taranaki in New Plymouth, so don’t mix them up. The Taranaki Falls are located right next to the Tongariro Visitor Center.
The trail is a 6-kilometer loop, and it’s generally easier to walk counterclockwise.

My hiking partner and I woke up before dawn, around 5 AM. First, we dropped off our teammate at the base of Mount Ruapehu for his climb. Then, the two of us spent a delightful morning at the Ohakune Carrot Adventure Park in the charming Carrot Town.
We began our hike at around 2:30 PM. It took us exactly three hours to complete, though most adults can likely finish it in 1.5 to 2 hours.
Remember to stay warm and wear anti-slip gear, especially if you’re hiking in the winter.
