🏔️ The waters of Milford Sound are usually serene, but there are pockets where the wind is so fierce that standing on the deck feels like you’re about to be swept away at any moment 🛫.

🌊 As you near the Pacific Ocean, the winds and waves grow stronger, making for a noticeably bumpier and more exhilarating ride.

⛴️ We opted for the Monarch by Real Journeys, a three-level vessel with two levels of cozy cabins and an open deck on top. Inside, the cabins are warm and inviting, offering coffee and light refreshments. When the rain on the deck becomes too intense, you can retreat to the comfort of the cabin to relax and recharge.

Don’t forget to download the Real Journeys app in advance to access a Chinese tour guide, enhancing your experience with insightful commentary.

🧭 Situated just 2,500 kilometers from Antarctica and 2,000 kilometers from Australia, this fjord experiences over 200 rainy days a year. Only a few of the waterfalls here are permanent, but the heavier the rain, the more dramatic the water flow, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

🍂 In early autumn in New Zealand (February), the water flow might not be as heavy, but the up-close views of the waterfalls on the return journey are still incredibly impressive.

🔅 For a more dramatic effect in your photos, try lowering the brightness and increasing the contrast to capture the apocalyptic beauty of the landscape.

Milford Sound sounds absolutely breathtaking! I love how the landscape changes so dramatically depending on the weather. Have you ever been on one of those boat tours during a storm? It must feel like an adventure!
Thank you for your comment! I haven’t personally been on a tour during a storm, but I can imagine it would be an unforgettable experience—like something out of an adventure movie! The power of nature really shines in those moments. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and safe travels if you ever make it there!
