I’m talking about the breathtaking Milford Sound in New Zealand. The journey begins with a 10-hour round trip by bus from Queenstown, setting off before dawn at around 6:30 AM. After five hours of scenic stops along the way, you finally arrive at this natural wonder. With the anticipation of seeing a landscape as unique as those found in China, it turns out to feel somewhat similar to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River on a rainy day.

The apocalyptic and dramatic scenes often depicted online are mostly confined to photographs; in reality, you’re greeted with cold rain and the refreshing splash of waterfall mist on your face, only to be dried by the chilly wind [crying emoji]. Then, it’s another nearly 5-hour bus ride back, and the day comes to a close, leaving you with memories of both awe and adventure.

The comparison to the Three Gorges is interesting—both places have such a unique atmosphere on a rainy day. I’d love to visit Milford Sound someday, especially after hearing about those scenic stops along the way.
