The must-visit destination in Penang is undoubtedly Penang Hill. Plan to spend an entire day here, enjoying a hike during the day and visiting the nearby Kek Lok Si Temple for evening prayers.

When it comes to the funicular train, past travel guides have often recommended purchasing a quick pass. However, during our visit over the Spring Festival, the regular queue was surprisingly short, taking less than an hour, and it wasn’t as stressful as expected. So, if you’re not in a hurry, joining the regular line to ascend the hill is perfectly fine.

If you’re fortunate, you might spot the elusive dusky leaf monkeys at the summit. Keep your eyes peeled, as they tend to hide among the treetops.

On the mountain, you have the option to continue hiking or take a shuttle, which is very affordable. The journey ends at the charming Monkey Cafe, where you absolutely must try their Kophi Hutan—it has an irresistible aroma! On the way down, I was lucky enough to catch glimpses of giant squirrels and more dusky leaf monkeys, making the entire experience even more enchanting and vivid.
