It’s been two weeks since I got back! Finally found the time to write about this unforgettable trip. On Xiaohongshu, it seems more people go on safaris in Kenya, while Tanzania has only started gaining popularity in recent years. Our safari lasted seven days, and the overall experience was fantastic—facilities, hospitality, and scenery all exceeded expectations.

🦁️ We booked a local agent for an all-inclusive package (the agent is called Tanzania Specialist, highly recommended by Team Leader S). Remember to confirm the itinerary, hotel details, and guide style in advance (the guide also serves as the driver and greatly impacts the experience). If anything is unsatisfactory, adjustments can be made through communication.

🐆 We visited four national parks: Tarangire (baobab trees and a paradise for herbivores), Lake Manyara National Park (night game drives are amazing! Experiencing eye contact with leopards in the dark), Serengeti (the main site of the Great Migration), and Ngorongoro (where you can see rhinos). Each has its own unique charm and is worth visiting.

🐘 The coffee plantation tour and Maasai tribe visit were a bit boring. Those with tight schedules can skip these.

🦒 The hotels included in the itinerary were quite good. On the day of departure, our flight was canceled, forcing us to stay in a local three-star hotel arranged by the airline. That’s when we truly realized how important it is to stay in decent hotels in Africa. Here are some solid recommendations:
Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge
Escarpment Luxury Lodge
Sametu Camp by Karibu Camps and Lodges
River Camp by Karibu Camps & Lodges
Lahia Tented Lodge
Ngorongoro O’ldeani Mountain Lodge

🦓 A practical outfit combo: sun-protective jacket/windbreaker + tank top/T-shirt + cargo pants. Outerwear gets dirty quickly, so just keep changing the inner tank top. Linen shirts weren’t as practical as expected. There’s little time or energy to do laundry, so bring enough clothes for daily changes. Most roads are very dusty—a face covering helps a lot.

🦏 Bring plenty of cash for tips.

🦩 Total cost reference for the 7-day safari:
Round-trip flights from Zurich: ~1200 CHF
Agent package: 2800 CHF
Pre-trip vaccines and medications: ~300 CHF
Miscellaneous: visa fees, tips, meals not included, etc. ~200 CHF
Total: 4500 CHF

Tanzania safaris sound amazing! I didn’t know Kenya was more popular though. Seven days sounds perfect, did you see lots of wildlife?
