National Geographic magazine has dubbed this place “the most moon-like spot on Earth.” Standing atop the mountain, I realized that no book or photograph could truly capture the breathtaking beauty that unfolds before your eyes. As the night sky slowly gives way to dawn, the stars fade, and the sun begins its ascent, casting a golden glow over the distant volcanoes.
The entire landscape is enveloped in a mystical mist, blending warm and cool hues. In that moment, I felt a profound connection with the earth, experiencing the awe and splendor of our planet. I captured the shot of a lifetime, a moment etched forever in my most cherished memories. In the tens of thousands of days that make up our lives, aren’t we living for just a few such moments?

π Travel Itinerary:
1: At around 2 AM, our pre-arranged jeep arrived at the hotel to pick us up for the mountain trek. We had booked a guide and driver from home, including one night’s accommodation. After comparing several travel agencies and local guides in Indonesia, we found prices ranging from 1.1k to 1.5k RMB per person. We chose the one with the best and fastest service.
2: We reached the transfer station by 4:30 AM, where we could rest. A small shop offered a cozy spot to sit by the fire, sip coffee, and enjoy instant noodles. The jeep ride was incredibly bumpy, and my friends and I almost got dizzy. The higher we went, the colder it became. The supply station sold knit hats and rented down jackets, which were lifesavers.
3: Around 4:30 AM, we began our ascent. Upon reaching the summit, we were greeted by a stunning starry sky, a sight that left us in awe.
4: By 5 AM, the sky started to lighten, and the sun gradually rose, creating a mesmerizing interplay of warm and cool colors as the mist slowly dissipated. It was a sight to behold. You must quickly secure the best spot because these beautiful moments are fleeting. Under the popular tree, several lovely girls helped me take many beautiful photos. They were enthusiastic and skilled, and I am immensely grateful to them!
5: Around 6 AM, we prepared to descend the mountain. Upon arriving at the jeep camp, we got ready to ride horses to another crater. For convenience, we used the guide’s recommended horse rental service, which cost 250k Indonesian Rupiah per person. You can either walk or ride a horse up the mountain. Riding a horse takes about half an hour and is easier due to the thick volcanic ash. Though a bit bumpy, I found it quite fun and adventurous.
6: To reach the crater, you need to climb a steep staircase. The guide won’t accompany you, but I was delighted to meet the girl who helped me take photos again. Her photography skills were truly exceptional!
7: Our adventure concluded around 9 AM. We returned to the hotel to collect our luggage, and our driver whisked us away to Surabaya Airport Terminal 1. The journey from the mountain-foot hotel to the airport is a scenic, albeit lengthy, 3-hour drive.
π Summary:
In my view, conquering Bromo isn’t particularly challenging; the real test lies in the long journey and the early start. However, the breathtaking views and unforgettable experience make it all worthwhile. [Thumbs up R] [Thumbs up R]
