As someone who adores South America, I finally had the chance to explore Colombia—a destination I’ve long dreamed of visiting. Bogotá, a natural gateway for international travelers, became our first stop. With only a single day on the itinerary, every moment counted, and we dove straight into the city’s charm as soon as our morning flight touched down. The good news? Most attractions are within walking distance, and Uber rides here are incredibly affordable!

1️⃣ **Monserrate (Panoramic Views from the Hilltop)**
Start your day early at Monserrate to avoid the crowds and long lines for the cable car. Pro tip: book your tickets online in advance to skip the chaos of purchasing them on-site. For the smoothest experience, take the cable car up and the funicular down—it’s less crowded and offers stunning views throughout.

At the summit, you’ll find a bustling market brimming with local treasures. I couldn’t resist grabbing a vibrant Wayuu bag, available in countless patterns and sizes—just don’t forget to haggle! Another must-try is the cocoa tea, which becomes even more delightful with a splash of honey and lemon. Not only does it taste heavenly, but it also helps combat altitude sickness (though, thankfully, I didn’t feel any).

2️⃣ **La Candelaria**
This historic neighborhood is a photographer’s paradise, filled with graffiti-covered walls and colorful colonial architecture. Wander its charming streets without worrying about sticking to a map—every corner feels like an art installation waiting to be discovered. It’s easy to lose yourself in the artistic ambiance while snapping photos at every turn.

3️⃣ **Plaza Distrital de Mercado La Concordia**
Hidden within this lively market is a gem of a café where we were treated to an unforgettable coffee experience. A friendly barista invited us to sniff different beans, helped us pick our favorite, and then hand-brewed it right before our eyes. He even shared tips on controlling water temperature and brewing time.

The coffee was so rich and flavorful that I immediately stocked up on several bags of beans to bring home. The market also boasts stalls piled high with exotic fruits unique to Colombia (check out the last picture for proof). Feel free to sample a few and order a freshly squeezed juice—it’s pure magic in a glass.

4️⃣ **Bolívar Square**
This iconic square serves as Bogotá’s beating heart, though it can feel a bit chaotic at times. When I visited, the area was teeming with people, so staying vigilant against pickpockets was essential. Just a short stroll away lies the magnificent cathedral, its intricate details making it well worth the extra steps.

5️⃣ **Botero Museum**
Housed within this museum are priceless works donated by none other than Colombia’s celebrated artist Fernando Botero. Expect to marvel at his signature chubby figures, including a plump Mona Lisa and still-life masterpieces. But that’s not all—the collection also features paintings by global legends such as Picasso and Monet. Best of all? Admission is completely free, making it an absolute steal for art lovers.

6️⃣ **Gold Museum**
For just 5,000 pesos, you can step into the glittering world of Colombia’s Gold Museum. Its halls dazzle with intricate gold artifacts and ornaments, each telling a story of ancient civilizations. The third floor is particularly breathtaking, showcasing burial masks and the legendary Muisca golden raft inspired by the myth of El Dorado. The craftsmanship on display leaves visitors awestruck—truly a highlight of Bogotá’s cultural treasures.
