Before my trip, Medellin was the city that worried me the most—but it ended up being the one that impressed me the most. From its revitalized neighborhoods and vibrant reggaeton culture to its towering rock formations and lively nightlife, this city turned out to be far less intimidating than I had imagined. The lush greenery scattered throughout the city added a serene touch, making it feel welcoming rather than overwhelming.

The journey to Medellin with Jetsmart airline was smooth sailing, with no hiccups during security checks or boarding. Everything ran like clockwork, leaving me feeling relaxed as soon as I arrived.

For transportation both to and around the city, Uber was my go-to option. Once you land, simply set your pickup location inside the airport and wait for your driver to arrive before heading outside. It’s an easy and stress-free way to get moving.

⚠️ **Safety Tip:** As a solo female traveler, finding a companion when possible is always wise. For excursions to iconic spots like Guatape and Communa 13, I opted for group tours booked through Airbnb, which ensured complete peace of mind regarding safety. Stick to areas like Laureles and El Poblado, which are known for their safety and charm. Avoid venturing into unfamiliar or potentially dangerous zones.

⚠️ **Itinerary Suggestion:** While I spent two days and two nights in Medellin, I’d recommend extending your stay to at least three days and two nights. Dedicate an afternoon to exploring the city on a guided tour—it’s a fantastic way to soak in the local vibe and history.

**Day 1:** Begin with a breathtaking tour of the Guatape rock formations, followed by dinner at Restaurante Mondongo’s in El Poblado, where the flavors will leave you craving more. End the day with a stroll through Provenza, taking in the lively atmosphere.

**Day 2:** Start your morning with a visit to Communa 13, where street art tells powerful stories of resilience. Spend your afternoon at Botero Park, admiring the whimsical sculptures, then wander through the enchanting Botanical Garden. Cap off the evening with another delicious meal at Restaurante Mondongo’s before heading to the airport.

⚠️ **Accommodation Recommendation:** Stay in the safer and more convenient neighborhoods of Laureles or El Poblado. During my visit, I stayed at the Dann Carlton Hotel, which proved to be an excellent choice. Its prime location, 24-hour gym, tasty breakfast buffet, and stunning park views made it perfect for early morning runs. If you’re looking for comfort and convenience, this hotel comes highly recommended.

⚠️ **Currency Insight:** Apart from exchanging some cash in Cartagena, most expenses in Medellin were covered using my Visa card. Cash came in handy primarily for entrance fees at the rock formations and for purchasing water from street vendors.
