Is it true that many of you, especially students under 25, struggle to rent a car in the US? During holidays, you’re often stuck relying on friends’ cars or public transportation, never truly experiencing the freedom of the open road. I used to be in the same boat—until I discovered how to bypass the young driver fee and save a bundle of cash.

Wouldn’t it be smarter to spend that money on good food instead? Today, I’m excited to share my recent experience renting a car at Atlanta airport with anyone facing the same challenge! Don’t forget to bookmark this guide—it could be your ticket to hassle-free travel.

🚗 First things first: everyone needs to sign up for AAA. Simply head over to Google, type in “AAA,” and the first result should take you right there. Enter your zip code, and you’ll land on the AAA homepage. Look for the “Join AAA Now” button (it’s highlighted in Figure 11) and click it to become a member. For just $69 a year, you’re already one step closer to unlocking incredible savings on your next trip!

🚗 The second step is where the magic happens—booking your car. Return to the main page and click on “Travel” (as shown in Figure 12). Next, select “Cars” (Figure 13), and you’ll arrive at the booking page (Figure 14). Here, input your pick-up and drop-off locations along with your preferred times. Once you’ve done that, you’ll reach the car selection page (Figure 15).

And here’s the kicker: when you book through AAA, the young driver fee disappears entirely. On the final payment page, you’ll see that the young driver fee is magically reduced to $0. All that’s left is to choose the car model that suits your style!

🚗 With your car selected, it’s time to finalize the payment. You’ll likely be prompted to add Allianz insurance. Let me break it down for you: this coverage protects your rented car in case of theft, damage, or even if you happen to crash into a tree, wall, or guardrail. But remember ⚠️—this policy only covers *your* car, not any other vehicles involved.

We’ll dive into third-party coverage later. My advice? Opt for this insurance—it’s far more affordable than the comprehensive plans offered by companies like Hertz.

🚗 After confirming your booking and receiving your reservation details, it’s time to start dreaming about your adventure. About a week before picking up your car, you might (though it depends on the location) receive an online check-in form. A heads-up: I tried using my domestic driver’s license, but it didn’t work. So, I recommend heading straight to the counter to complete your check-in process.

I’m not quite done yet—I’ll post the rest of my tips in the comments below. If you found this helpful, give me a thumbs-up! Have questions or concerns?
