My first brush with Cartagena came not through a visit, but through the pages of Gabriel García Márquez’s masterpiece, *”Love in the Time of Cholera”*. This novel, celebrated as one of the 20th century’s greatest literary achievements, weaves a tale of enduring love that spans over five decades. It was here, in the vibrant city of Cartagena, where García Márquez studied at the university, that he found the inspiration to bring this timeless romance—and a piece of Colombia’s history—to life.

*”Love in the Time of Cholera”*

A quote to remember: *Remember me with a rose.*

Following in the footsteps of the great García Márquez, I wandered through the old town with friends, soaking in its charm. The colonial architecture, painted in an array of dazzling colors, stands proudly against the sky, while blossoms of romance spill over balconies and line the cobblestone alleys. Each step felt like stepping into a living scene from the novel, as if Fermina and Florentino’s story unfolded right before my eyes.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the ancient walls became a canvas for golden light, drawing crowds eager to witness the breathtaking sunset. The coastline stretches endlessly, where golden sands meet the deep azure sea. Towering castles, spires of historic churches, and low-slung Spanish-style buildings harmonize perfectly, creating a tableau of timeless beauty. 🕍
