🚗 Car Rental Platform:
For my recent adventure in Latin America, I decided to explore Puerto Montt, Chile, by renting a car. Once again, I turned to the reliable Zuzuche platform, a trusted companion since my self-drive trip to Hawaii back in 2016. Over these eight years, Zuzuche has consistently delivered, making it my go-to choice for car rentals.

🚘 Car Rental Company Selection
The Zuzuche platform offers a wide array of car rental companies in Puerto Montt, from global giants like Hertz and Avis to smaller, local brands. I opted for the mid-range SIXT, which not only provided competitive rates but also offered automatic transmission vehicles, a feature often missing from many local options.

🔐 About Insurance
In addition to the basic insurance included with the rental, I opted for comprehensive additional coverage. This included zero deductible, glass and tire protection, ensuring that safety was a top priority throughout our journey.

💡 Car Pickup Process
1️⃣ All car rental companies in Puerto Montt are conveniently located right across from the airport arrivals exit, making them easy to spot. The staff will ask for your original driver’s license, an internationally certified translation, a VISA credit card, and your passport. To our delight, they upgraded our vehicle from a Roewe to a Tucson, adding an extra touch of excitement to our trip ✌️
2️⃣ The car rental fee and deposit were processed as a pre-authorization.

The rental fee was charged about a week after we returned the car, and the deposit was refunded 20 days later.
3️⃣ After payment, we received a car rental contract and proceeded to inspect the vehicle. During the inspection, we paid close attention to any dents or scratches on the exterior, the condition of the tires, the mileage, the fuel level, and whether a spare tire and jack were provided.

Taking photos for documentation is highly recommended. We also made sure to confirm the type of fuel needed; our car required 95 octane gasoline, which the staff kindly noted in the instructions.

⛽️ Returning the Car
1️⃣ When returning the car, it must be returned with a full tank. Find the nearest gas station to the airport, keep the receipt after refueling, and take a photo of the full fuel gauge.
2️⃣ You need to get a parking card to enter the airport parking lot. Leave this card in a visible place in the car, and it’s best to park in the same area where you started, not too far away.

3️⃣ Since we returned the car early, the staff had not yet started work, so we dropped the car key into the key box at the rental counter. It’s a good idea to record a video while doing this to have a visual record.
