El Loa Airport 🚗 San Pedro de Atacama
We picked up our car at Calama Airport and set off on the journey to Atacama. The drive was a surreal experience, with vast, desolate landscapes stretching as far as the eye could see. The only sign of life was a solitary llama, which added a touch of humor to the otherwise stark scenery [laugh-cry emoji].
Coming from the lush and vibrant Easter Island, the dramatic change in environment left me feeling a bit disoriented. On our first day, we decided to acclimate at a lower altitude, ranging from 2300 to 3400 meters, to see how our bodies would adjust.
📍Laguna Chaxa Park (tickets need to be purchased in advance)
Our first stop was the nearby Laguna Chaxa Park, a stunning salt lake that is home to a variety of wildlife. As we approached, we were greeted by the sight of numerous flamingos in the distance, their pink feathers standing out against the blue water. However, when we got closer, we found only a few of them within view, which was a bit disappointing [crying emoji]. Despite this, the serene beauty of the park and the unique landscape made it a memorable visit.
