I’ve covered 4,000 kilometers in just four and a half days, and traversing Chile has been no small feat. The northern Atacama region is undeniably stunning, but the journey from there to the lake district, particularly around Santiago, felt monotonous and uninspiring. This adventure demands an appreciation for both the extraordinary and the ordinary.

Tomorrow, I’ll venture out of Chile’s heartland and into the southern reaches, where fragmented islands and fjords await. From there, I’ll fly even further south to Punta Arenas, ready to embark on a self-driving expedition around the rugged and enchanting Tierra del Fuego.
