🌳 **City Selection**: When visiting the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, you’ll typically choose between two gateway cities: Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado. Iquitos, located in northeastern Peru, is more developed and even served as the filming location for a popular Korean variety show.
However, if your itinerary includes Cusco afterward, you’ll need to transit through Lima, adding extra travel time. On the other hand, Puerto Maldonado, nestled in southern Peru and closer to Cusco, saves time but offers more basic facilities and fewer options. We opted for the latter, prioritizing convenience for our overall journey.
☎️ **Travel Agency Selection**: Booking in advance is highly recommended. A 3-day, 2-night all-inclusive package is ideal, covering airport transfers, meals, accommodations, and activities. In Iquitos, “Ceiba Tops Lodge” stands out as one of the top choices—it’s where the variety show was filmed—but comes with a higher price tag of $765 per person.

### 2. Pre-trip Preparation
💉 **Yellow Fever Vaccine**: While not mandatory, it’s strongly recommended. Be sure to book an appointment early, as vaccines are in short supply nationwide this year. I traveled from Shanghai to Ningbo just to get vaccinated. Aim to complete the vaccination at least 10 days before entering the rainforest.
🦟 **Mosquito Protection**: Protect yourself with full-body mosquito-proof clothing (as shown in Figure 11)—it truly works wonders! Additionally, bring along mosquito repellent spray for extra safeguarding.
💊 **Medications**: Pack essentials such as Levofloxacin for dysentery, diarrhea relief and enteritis relief for gastrointestinal issues, Ibuprofen for fever and pain, and Vitamin C to boost your immune system.
