The first time I visited Iguazu was on December 8th, during the low season. My second and third visits, on January 6th and February 8th, fell during the high season. The first and third trips were quick day excursions—just enough time to marvel at the Devil’s Throat and take a boat ride under the falls on both sides, without fully exploring the park.

However, my second visit included an overnight stay, giving me ample time to thoroughly explore both sides of the falls and even visit the tri-border area. Whether you opt for a one-day or two-day adventure depends entirely on your preferences. Here are three essential tips to enhance your experience:

1️⃣ If you’re aiming to see both sides in a single day, hiring a car is absolutely crucial! Even without a Brazilian visa, your driver can bring you to the Brazilian side, thanks to a special rule: as long as you return to Argentina on the same day, no Brazilian visa is required. However, if you plan to stay overnight, a Brazilian visa becomes necessary.

An Argentine visa is mandatory, as Argentine customs are notoriously strict, with potentially long lines. During the high season, expect to spend at least an hour clearing Argentine customs. If you’re catching a flight from the Brazilian side during this busy period, allocate at least two hours for the journey!

(The high season typically spans from around Christmas through March.)

2️⃣ Be aware that the iconic Devil’s Throat may close on rainy days. That said, Iguazu’s allure shines through regardless of the weather—whether it’s a misty downpour or golden sunshine (as seen in the photo above). Fun fact: the Brazilian side served as the filming location for “Happy Together”!

3️⃣ When it comes to the unforgettable boat ride experience, prices on both sides are comparable‼️ But the Brazilian boats offer a more exhilarating adventure, being smaller and taking you thrillingly close under the cascading waters not once, but three times. It’s an absolute must-try!

👉 For boat ride tickets, purchasing them on-site is highly recommended for greater flexibility, allowing you to use them immediately. Ticket booths are conveniently located at the entrance and within the park.

4️⃣ On admission fees, the Argentine side tends to be about 50% pricier than the Brazilian side🙂↕️
👉 Regarding ticket purchases, booking Brazilian side tickets involves selecting a specific entry time, so buying them on-site might be preferable. Self-service machines are available, and while you’re technically supposed to adhere to your chosen time, blending in with the crowd often works—even if it’s before your official entry slot.
Staff may try to stop you, but persistently queuing usually does the trick😊. Conversely, during the high season, the Argentine side relies solely on manual ticket counters, which can mean lengthy waits. Booking Argentine tickets online is advisable to save time, though bear in mind that once purchased, these tickets cannot be refunded or modified, so keep an eye on any changes to your travel plans (and steer clear of Aerolíneas Argentinas!
!)
5️⃣ For travelers eager to explore both sides, enjoy the thrilling boat ride, and make a memorable day trip back to Buenos Aires, look no further than Plan 2 (P2)! 🙌 If the iconic Devil’s Throat on the Argentine side is open, start your adventure there first (take the scenic train all the way to its final stop).
If time allows, proceed to the upper circuit for breathtaking views. On the Brazilian side, hop on the shuttle bus to the last stop for an awe-inspiring view of Devil’s Throat. For the unforgettable boat ride, disembark at the Macuco signpost.
6️⃣ Keep these crucial time points in mind:
– No matter which side you choose, you must enter the park by 3:00 PM!
– The final train to Devil’s Throat on the Argentine side departs promptly at 3:30 PM.
– The last shuttle buses from both sides leave at 5:30 PM, with the park closing its gates at 6:00 PM.
– Whether starting on the Argentine or Brazilian side, it’s recommended to head over to the other side by 1:00 PM to maximize your experience.
– The boat ride on either side requires a minimum of two hours, so be sure to allocate sufficient time for this exhilarating activity.
