High-speed train from Hangzhou East to Fuzhou South: 225 RMB, departing at 07:08 and arriving at 11:30. During this time, you can either drop off your luggage or store it directly at the baggage counter in Fuzhou South Station.
Next, take the high-speed train from Fuzhou South to Lianjiang for just 12 RMB, a short ride from 13:23 to 13:38. From Lianjiang Railway Station, hop into a taxi for about 15 RMB (a mere 10-minute drive) to reach Lianjiang Bus Station. From there, catch a bus to Qida Village for 20 RMB. Keep in mind that waiting times may vary, so the departure could be anytime between 14:30 and 15:20.
At the base of the mountain, you’ll find toilets where you can lighten your load before beginning your ascent. I personally climbed 1,800 steps in an hour and twenty minutes, but your pace might differ. The weather was perfect during my visit—sunny with a gentle breeze—so I only wore one layer of clothing. As for trekking poles, they’re entirely optional; I found them unnecessary. Remember, simplicity is key when preparing for such adventures.
For your descent, buses depart from near the basketball court. You can either wait there or call for an additional bus if needed. The latest scheduled bus leaves at 5 PM, though an extra service was added during the New Year celebrations. The return journey from Qida to Lianjiang Bus Station costs 20 RMB and takes about an hour, from 17:00 to 18:00.
Once back at the bus station entrance, negotiate with a motorcycle taxi driver for a fare of around 10 RMB—it’s a great opportunity to put your bargaining skills to the test! Then, board the high-speed train back from Lianjiang to Fuzhou for another 12 RMB. While the staff at Lianjiang High-Speed Railway Station were a bit curt, the rest of the experience was smooth sailing. Subway rides are even free during the Spring Festival!
Lianjiang truly lives up to its reputation as a picturesque destination. I fell in love with the serene charm of the county town, the stunning islands, and the vibrant fishing villages. This trip was absolutely worth every moment—I couldn’t have been more delighted!
