If your time is limited to just 1-2 days, following this route will allow you to experience the best of what the city has to offer. The itinerary follows a logical north-to-south flow, with hiking as an optional extra.

1️⃣ The Museu do Amanhã is my favorite museum—it’s a science museum that brings back fond memories of Tokyo’s Science Museum. Students enjoy a half-price discount, and showing my CH ID worked wonders! Even though the staff initially didn’t understand, we ended up having a delightful chat, and I secured the student rate (thanks, no doubt, to my youthful 32-year-old face, hahaha).

On the second floor, there’s a captivating cultural exhibition showcasing diverse traditions from around the world. Plus, the view behind the museum is breathtakingly picturesque.

2️⃣ Right across the street lies the Rio Museum of Art, which costs only 10R—an absolute steal! The museum hosts rotating exhibitions, and on my visit, it featured a vibrant street Funk showcase.

3️⃣ The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) offers free tickets via a machine on the first floor. During my trip, it was hosting a fascinating Peruvian culture exhibition—well worth a stop.

4️⃣ The Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro is a must-see for tourists, often referred to as the “cathedral with a ladder to heaven.” Its awe-inspiring architecture and vibrant stained glass make it unforgettable.

5️⃣ The Arcos da Lapa is one of those Instagram-famous spots. While it might seem underwhelming during the day, it truly comes alive at night when it becomes a hub for lively street bars.

6️⃣ The Selarón Steps are another internet sensation—a colorful staircase that draws visitors from all over the globe.

7️⃣ Praça Paris is home to the largest weekend market in the area, making it a shopper’s paradise. It’s perfect for picking up unique souvenirs or local crafts.
8️⃣ The Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro offers free admission, allowing you to explore its artistic treasures without breaking the bank. Afterward, take a leisurely stroll by the lagoon nearby—it’s incredibly refreshing.
From here, hop into a taxi or catch the metro to continue your journey:
9️⃣ Christ the Redeemer is an iconic landmark, bustling with tourists. Though I opted not to climb up, admiring it from afar proved equally enchanting.
🔟 Parque Lage is renowned for its picturesque café, but beware—the photo queues can be daunting. Personally, I decided to skip it and save time for other adventures.
