I’ve been eagerly anticipating a visit to the Perth Mint, and today, I finally made it happen!
The highlight of my day was undoubtedly when I got to design my own personalized coin!
I instantly fell in love with a stunning silver coin featuring an opal swan. The staff member mentioned that I could customize the back, but I hesitated, thinking it might come off as too flashy, which isn’t really my style.
I expressed my preference for something more understated, like kangaroos and koalas, and he suggested a design with the outline of the Australian map, complete with iconic animals. I asked if we could omit the names of other cities and just keep Perth, and he assured me it was no problem. He quickly got to work, skillfully using Photoshop to bring my vision to life.
To my delight, he even offered to add a quokka to the design, and I enthusiastically agreed. He then shared fascinating details about a small island in Australia, apart from Rottnest Island, where quokkas are abundant, painting a vivid picture of their natural habitat.
He went above and beyond, asking me to choose which specific koala I wanted, making me feel like a zookeeper in charge of my own wildlife sanctuary 🥳
The final touch was having my name and “Australia 2025” engraved on the silver coin, which filled me with joy! I had initially planned to just buy gifts for friends, but I ended up creating a cherished keepsake for myself 🪙
When I got home, I couldn’t wait to show off my little masterpiece to my boyfriend’s parents. I must say, I absolutely adore this commemorative coin 😍

Absolutely! I added a small engraving on the back with my initials and the year. It really ties everything together and makes the coin feel extra special.
