In February 2025, I embarked on a train journey from Madrid to Cordoba. Here are my experiences to help you plan your trip.

1. When traveling by train, it’s crucial to verify if your ticket includes luggage size. If your bags exceed the allowed dimensions, make sure to visit the counter 30 minutes before departure to purchase a luggage ticket, which can save you up to 15 euros.

2. For an authentic experience, I highly recommend staying in the old town of Cordoba. The area is filled with historic buildings, immersing you in a unique and enchanting atmosphere.

3. A visit to the Cordoba Cathedral is a must, and it typically takes no more than two hours. While there is no audio guide available, don’t miss the opportunity to climb the bell tower for a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The ticket costs 3.3 euros, but due to a website issue, you cannot buy it online. Purchase your ticket directly at the entrance; they are sold for specific time slots and cannot be bought in advance.

4. The Roman Bridge is a stunning sight that should not be missed. Take a leisurely walk to the far end, and the view back towards the city is even more spectacular.

5. There’s a small Carrefour supermarket in the old town, offering a surprisingly comprehensive selection of goods despite its size.

6. Be aware that the palace is closed on Mondays and has limited hours on Sunday afternoons, so plan your visit accordingly.

7. You can purchase tickets in detail on the official website, but be cautious as they are non-refundable. I made the mistake of buying the wrong time slot, so double-check your selections.

8. The old town is conveniently within walking distance of the train station. Before heading to the platform, make sure to check which one your train departs from. I was traveling to Seville, and my ticket was only checked after I boarded the train.
9. One to two days in Cordoba is ample time to explore and appreciate its beauty. The picturesque scenery and rich history make it a destination well worth visiting.
