This book is a treasure trove of the Moors’ ancient history, revealing a thousand-year-old city nestled among vibrant flowers and enchanting courtyards.

Cordoba stands out as my favorite small city in Andalusia. For 800 years, this place was a crucible where North African Arab and Spanish civilizations clashed and merged, creating a unique tapestry of culture. The entire city feels like a vast, living museum, inviting you to spend an entire day exploring its rich heritage.

子弹火车 Transportation:
Cordoba is a compact city where everything is within walking distance, making it easy to explore in just one day.

1⃣ Cordoba Mosque
💳 Student ticket 10 euros / regular ticket 13 euros.
The Cordoba Mosque is a rare gem, a fusion of architectural styles that tells the story of centuries. Built during the 8th century under Moorish rule, it was later transformed into a Catholic church in the 13th century. This magnificent structure seamlessly blends Moorish Islamic elements with traditional Catholic design, reflecting the ebb and flow of history.

The mosque’s courtyard, filled with orange trees, fills the air with a sweet, citrusy aroma under the warm sun.

❗️ The Cordoba Mosque offers free entry from 8:30 to 9:30 on Monday to Saturday mornings.

2⃣ Castle of the Christian Monarchs
💳 Student ticket 2.5 euros / regular ticket 5 euros.
Also known as the Cordoba Castle, this 8th-century fortress is a personal favorite. Amidst the time-worn ruins, ancient towers, walls, and courtyards stand as silent witnesses to the past. Beneath the Moorish Arab-style castle lies a Renaissance-style European garden, a stunning example of cultural convergence and conflict.

❗️ The Castle of the Christian Monarchs is closed on Mondays, open from 8:15-14:15 on Sundays, 9:30-17:30 on Saturdays, and 8:15-19:30 on other days.
3⃣ Roman Bridge / Calahorra Tower
💳 The Roman Bridge is free, Calahorra Tower student ticket 3 euros / regular ticket 4.5 euros.
Built in the 1st century during the Roman era, the bridge has been rebuilt and used continuously. Climbing the Calahorra Tower provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The stone bridge, a testament to the passage of time, stretches gracefully towards the old town, linking the past and present.
4⃣ Viana Palace
💳 Garden only 8 euros / visit both garden and palace interior 12 euros.
The true charm of Viana Palace lies in its gardens; the palace interiors are less impressive, so a visit to the gardens alone is sufficient. Tucked away in a residential area, the palace boasts 12 modern Spanish-style courtyards, each with its own unique style.
Unlike the grandeur of the Castle of the Christian Monarchs, Viana Palace’s gardens offer a more intimate and delicate experience, perfect for garden enthusiasts.
❗️ Viana Palace is closed on Mondays, open from 10:00-15:00 on Sundays, and 10:00-19:00 on other days.
Floral Alley might seem charming at first glance, with its quaint clusters of flowers adorning the walls. If you happen to stroll by, it’s worth a quick peek, but don’t go out of your way to visit.
🥘 Food (Figure 18):
The restaurants I discovered in Cordoba were all found by chance on the map. The local eateries are incredibly budget-friendly, with a refreshing glass of Sangria costing just 1-2 euros. The tapas here are also very affordable, though they tend to be a bit more rustic and robust in flavor and presentation compared to those in Barcelona.
