And even if you send it, you may not necessarily receive it; it all depends on fate [laughing and crying]. This old man in blue is the sole postman at the post office, affectionately known as the “proud, humanistic old man” by travelers.

He arrives whenever he pleases, making the post office’s hours somewhat unpredictable. Even the staff at the entrance of the scenic area aren’t quite sure when he’ll show up. So, many times, visiting the post office is a matter of luck and timing.

Why is it so popular?
The old man offers a unique service: for about 3 USD, he can stamp a commemorative seal on your passport (see p8-9). Many travelers from around the world come specifically to take a photo with him, get a stamp, and send a postcard. He has been a dedicated postman here for several decades.

Sending a postcard with a commemorative stamp from the end of the world to someone important sounds incredibly romantic I sent one at the end of December last year, and after 4 months, I still haven’t received it [crying] [crying] [crying]. Is it fate that I encountered the post office being open, but no fate to receive the postcard?

[Check-in] Address:
Ushuaia, Argentina [the southernmost city in the world], also a romantic place featured in Wong Kar-wai’s “Happy Together”;
Ushuaia Unidad Postal Fin Del Mundo (just input into the map navigation)
Transportation:
While there are buses, they can be painfully slow, so taking a taxi is highly recommended.

I took a taxi from the city center, which cost around 100 RMB round trip. With more people visiting Ushuaia, ride-sharing is now an option, and it takes about 30 minutes one way.
Souvenirs [shopping spree] Refrigerator magnets, postcards, commemorative stamps, maps, and more. The prices can be a bit steep when converted to local currency, but the unique items make it worth the splurge.

Sharing a piece about “The Romance of Ushuaia ”
“Where are you planning to go?”
“Take it slow, to a place called Ushuaia.”
“It’s cold, what are you going to do there?”
“I heard it’s the end of the world, so I want to see it. Have you been there? I heard there’s a lighthouse where people who have broken up like to go and leave their unhappy memories behind.”

This post office sounds so quirky and charming! It must be a unique experience to visit, even if there’s no guarantee the mail will actually go out. The postman seems like quite a character too.
