️⃣ The closest town to El Chaltén with an airport is El Calafate, a charming spot that boasts a variety of restaurants and supermarkets, making it a perfect base for your adventures.

️⃣ Direct buses are available from Puerto Natales in Chile to El Calafate in Argentina. It’s wise to purchase tickets 1-2 days in advance to ensure availability. The bus seats are generally clean and comfortable, and the scenic journey takes around 6-7 hours. There will be a brief stop at the border, where you’ll find a small supermarket, but the selection is limited, so it’s best to pack some snacks or a light meal.

️⃣ El Calafate is home to many travel agencies that offer a range of day trips to nearby attractions. If you’re heading to El Chaltén, simply book a morning bus ticket for 7:00 AM. Hiking in El Chaltén is free, allowing you to explore the stunning landscapes at your own pace.

️⃣ El Chaltén is a hiker’s paradise, with numerous trails accessible right from the town. The most renowned route is the one leading to the majestic Mount Fitz Roy. For detailed trail information, refer to the map provided in Figure 9.

️⃣ For those seeking an adrenaline rush, local travel agencies also offer rock climbing experiences. Unfortunately, during my recent visit, I only had a day to spare and couldn’t partake in this thrilling activity. For more information on rock climbing, see the details in Figure 5.

️⃣ Unlike the Chilean side of Patagonia, which often requires booking accommodations and transportation months in advance and involves multiple transfers, El Chaltén offers a more relaxed and convenient experience. With its abundance of dining options and cozy hostels, it’s an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. You can easily spend a week here, conquering all the nearby peaks and enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
