Spring in Brazil is just as scorching as summer. In September, I found myself standing beneath a blazing 36-degree sun at the breathtaking waterfalls. The world’s widest waterfall is nothing short of awe-inspiring—a true marvel of nature that leaves you speechless!
Getting there couldn’t be easier. There are multiple daily flights from Rio de Janeiro to Iguazu Falls, with direct flights lasting just over an hour. This accessibility makes planning your visit a breeze.
I highly recommend booking the Macuco Safari boat tour, which you can purchase either in advance or directly at the site. The experience begins with an exhilarating ride through the rainforest aboard an off-road vehicle. Afterward, you’ll stroll a short distance through the lush tropical jungle before hopping onto a speedboat for the grand finale—an up-close encounter with the roaring power of the falls!
You have two thrilling options: “get completely drenched” or “stay dry.” My personal pick? Go all-in and soak yourself—it’s an unforgettable adventure! Despite the chilly spray from the falls, the soaring temperatures (a blistering 36 degrees) make it refreshingly invigorating. Otherwise, the cold might have been too much to handle.
Regrettably, I didn’t manage to secure an Argentine visa (Brazil’s process was taxing enough). On the Brazilian side, you’re treated to a stunning panoramic view of the entire waterfall system. However, the Argentine side offers unparalleled opportunities to get closer to the cascades and experience their beauty in more intimate ways. Rumor has it, the Argentine perspective is even more spectacular! If you ever get the chance, I strongly urge you to explore both sides for the full experience.
**Hotel Recommendation:**
For our stay, we chose Wish, a five-star gem that punches well above its weight in terms of value. At around 800 RMB per night, this sprawling resort delivers exceptional comfort without breaking the bank. From the main gate to the reception hall stretches a leisurely 2-kilometer walk, surrounded by lush greenery.
The property boasts three exquisite dining venues, a pristine swimming pool, tennis courts, and numerous other amenities. Rooms are housed in charming, detached buildings, each containing 2-8 rooms, ensuring a serene and cozy atmosphere.
Given the safety concerns in Rio after dark—where venturing out could expose you to potential risks—the security-controlled access at Wish provided immense peace of mind. It felt like a sanctuary within a bustling destination.
Within the Iguazu Falls park itself lies another luxury option, Belmond Hotel das Cataratas. Here, you can savor the sunset over the falls from the comfort of your room or the hotel grounds—a dreamlike experience. However, be prepared for sticker shock; rates here exceed those at Wish by more than threefold.
Whether it’s worth splurging depends entirely on your preferences. For us, Wish proved to be an outstanding choice. We even dedicated an entire day to soaking up the resort’s lavish offerings, thoroughly enjoying every moment.
