Every day, numerous flights depart from São Paulo to Manaus, each taking approximately four hours to reach this vibrant Amazonian city.
Upon arrival at Manaus airport, several transportation options await you. Buses provide an affordable way to reach the city center for just 4.3 reais, while taxis offer a more convenient but pricier alternative.

Manaus itself is an intriguing destination, though it does experience heavy rainfall throughout the year. The city’s main attractions revolve around the majestic Amazon River, where a striking bridge spans its vast waters.
Exploring the Amazon Rainforest requires joining a guided tour group. Options range from one-day excursions to immersive three-day adventures.

I opted for the Amazon Gero Tour, which offers private single rooms during a three-day journey for 1,000 reais (prices may increase during peak seasons). This unforgettable experience includes hiking through lush rainforests, encountering sloths and pink dolphins, trying your hand at piranha fishing, camping under the stars, attempting crocodile spotting, and marveling at diverse wildlife.

It’s truly an adventure worth considering.
If your primary interest lies in wildlife observation, smaller cities like Iquitos in Peru might be better suited for your needs, as Manaus’ urban sprawl limits direct contact with nature.
When it comes to cuisine, the Amazon region is renowned for its grilled fish dishes.

However, after sampling several spots, I found them to be somewhat average, with freshwater fish often carrying a strong earthy flavor. On the other hand, nighttime street barbecues in the city center deliver a delightful taste reminiscent of those found in China, making them a must-try.
Brazil shares similarities with China in terms of shopping malls.

Here, large complexes house supermarkets and product counters on lower floors, while food markets occupy the upper levels—a setup that proves incredibly convenient for travelers.
For accommodation, Ibis hotels consistently offer excellent value across South America. Their chain includes the budget-friendly Ibis Budget and the slightly upscale Ibis Styles.

Be cautious when choosing Marriott or Hilton properties in South America, as counterfeit establishments exist; always verify descriptions carefully.
In Manaus, exploring the Amazon Rainforest independently isn’t feasible, so joining local tours becomes essential for accessing these natural wonders.
