Transport: To get to Saint-Malo from Rennes, hop on the TER train 🚄 for a scenic journey that lasts about an hour and costs around 7 euros. For our return trip, we opted for the Flixbus 🚌 as the bus stop is conveniently located right at the entrance of the old town, with late-night departures available. The bus ride takes just over an hour too but is much more budget-friendly at around 3.5 euros.

Dining: As a bustling tourist hub, restaurants in Saint-Malo can be on the pricier side, but there are affordable options like delicious crepes. We suggest starting your day early and enjoying lunch at the market, where you can savor some local specialties. On a sunny day, why not pack a picnic blanket and enjoy a meal by the beach?

For dinner, we indulged in a seafood buffet at Seafood Buffet La Cabane, priced at 39.5 euros per person. While the selection wasn’t vast, it featured fresh bread crabs, oysters, shrimp, and a few cooked dishes. If you’re a seafood lover, it’s definitely worth a try! Don’t forget to sample the creamy yogurt and the iconic Kouign Amann (a rich Breton pastry) while you’re here!

📍 Seafood Buffet La Cabane, 21 Quai Duguay-Trouin, 35400 – Be sure to check their opening hours and book ahead.
📍 Crepe Shop Bergamote, 3 Pl. Jean de Châtillon
📍 Kouign Amann de Saint-Malo, 6 Rue Porcon de la Barbinais

Overall Experience: It was truly delightful! After the tide recedes, locals and visitors alike head out to clam digging, and I even spotted people collecting mussels. Tiny crabs scurried along the shoreline, and near the port, jellyfish floated gracefully in the water! Keep in mind, the weather can shift quickly with occasional showers, so packing a raincoat is advisable.

There’s no shortage of activities either, such as exciting boat tours. Be sure to visit the tourist office before exploring the old town to learn more about what’s on offer.
