Transportation 🚌
Taxis are incredibly affordable here, so we didn’t bother exploring public transit options. Instead, we recommend using the Cabify ride-hailing app, which is reliable and efficient. A ride from the airport to the city center will set you back about $10, while most trips within the city hover around $2. It’s a convenient way to navigate Bogotá in style.
Accommodation 🏨
We stayed at the Embassy Suites in the vibrant Chapinero district—a fantastic choice that offers excellent value for money. This area is safe even at night, with plenty of nearby restaurants to satisfy every craving. Most of Bogotá’s top attractions are located in the charming old town, where daytime police patrols ensure peace of mind.
While it’s wise to keep an eye out for pickpockets, safety isn’t much of a concern otherwise. However, it’s best not to linger in certain areas after dark.

We planned two full days packed with adventure. On our first morning, we joined a Free Walking Tour, which lasted three hours and gave us a comprehensive introduction to Bogotá’s rich history and culture. Our knowledgeable guide also shared some must-visit recommendations, which we eagerly jotted down and explored later.
– Monserrate [⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐]
Whether you take the cable car or hike up, reaching the summit of Monserrate rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of Bogotá. The scenery is nothing short of stunning!
– La Perseverancia Marketplace [⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐]
This highly recommended market is a local gem. Inside, you’ll find Tolú, a restaurant featured on Netflix’s *Street Food*.
Visiting mid-week, we noticed it was mostly frequented by locals. Don’t miss their signature Ajiaco, a delicious potato chicken soup that’s pure comfort food.
– Botero Museum [⭐⭐⭐⭐]
Admission is free, making this a cultural treasure trove worth visiting. Dedicated to Fernando Botero, one of Latin America’s most celebrated modern artists, the museum showcases iconic works like his famously plump version of the Mona Lisa.
– Emerald Trade Center [⭐⭐⭐⭐]
As the world’s premier emerald-producing region, Colombia takes pride in its gems. Many overseas jewelers source their stones directly from this trade center. The emerald and diamond necklace pictured (Figure 9) was priced at approximately $800, with discounts available for cash payments.
Each piece comes with certification, and some stores even offer tax refunds upon departure.
Food 🍜
For an unforgettable dining experience, head to Restaurante 69 Gauchos, a renowned steakhouse praised by my Argentine family member. For two people, including drinks and dessert, expect to spend around $25—an absolute steal for such high-quality cuisine. Another standout is Juan Valdez coffee, which deserves all the accolades it receives.
