👋 Hey there, friends! Colombia is my 101st country to explore.

This marks my second visit to Colombia. Last time, I spent six incredible weeks here, but the timing wasn’t right for seeing the famous Rainbow River. The best season to witness its vibrant hues is during the rainy months from June to November—the perfect moment when nature transforms this river into a living canvas of colors 🌈.
📍 There are two main spots where you can marvel at this natural wonder:
**[Spot 1] Cano Cristales**
This is undoubtedly the more famous location, often referred to as “the most beautiful river in the world.”
1️⃣ Getting here isn’t straightforward—there’s no road access, so you’ll need to fly in. Most visitors opt for flights from Bogotá, though other departure points are available.
2️⃣ Typically, this adventure comes bundled in a 3-day, 2-night tour package.
Why? Because airlines have exclusive control over the routes, meaning tourists can’t book tickets independently. Here’s what your itinerary might look like:
– **Day 1:** Arrive and enjoy a short introductory tour to get acquainted with the surroundings.
– **Day 2:** Embark on an extended day trip to fully immerse yourself in the magic of the Rainbow River.
– **Day 3:** Wrap up your journey with a flight back home.
3️⃣ These packages usually cost upwards of $1,000, making it a premium experience.
**[Spot 2] San José del Guaviare**
For those seeking something off the beaten path, this lesser-known destination offers a quieter yet equally enchanting alternative.
1️⃣ Accessible by bus, this town has frequent departures from Bogotá, including overnight options. While the distance isn’t great, the mountainous terrain makes the journey last around 10 hours.
Alternatively, you can fly for convenience.
2️⃣ Tour packages vary in duration, ranging from 3 days/2 nights to longer stays of 4 or even 5 days. Personally, I find the shorter 3D/2N option sufficient, especially since different route lengths cater to various preferences.
3️⃣ Beyond the mesmerizing Rainbow River, this region boasts stunning rock formations, ancient rock paintings, and—if you’re lucky—even pink river dolphins 🐬 (no, not pufferfish 🐡).
However, due to ecological concerns, the dolphin-watching project has been temporarily suspended.
4️⃣ For budget-conscious travelers, the cheapest package starts at around $300+, offering great value for money.
🤩 Are you ready to plan your own Colombian adventure?
