One-Day Itinerary for Exploring Medellin Zone 13 on a Budget

Medellín, a renowned tourist destination in Colombia, is celebrated for its vibrant graffiti art. Once the stronghold of drug lords, the city’s bullet-scarred walls serve as a haunting reminder of its tumultuous past. Today, Medellín is a safe and welcoming place to explore during the day, and I dedicated much of my time to visiting its iconic landmarks.

I. Currency Exchange
Airport: Head to the departure level, where you’ll find the best exchange rate—3,700 Colombian pesos per dollar—at the counter featured in Figure 8. If you’re carrying more than 30,000 Colombian pesos, it’s advisable to exchange your money within the city instead.
City: Inside the mall adjacent to the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, any of the currency exchange offices will offer an impressive rate of 3,900 pesos per dollar.

II. Public Transportation
Airport Bus: For just 15,500 pesos per person, the airport bus is an economical way to reach the city center. After exiting the airport, turn right and follow the path to locate the bus stop (as shown in Figure 9). Be cautious, as there are two bus routes heading in opposite directions.

Alight near the pedestrian overpass close to the Exposiciones station (Figure 10), then take a short stroll to the metro station (Figure 11). For your return trip, the bus stop is conveniently located beneath the metro station (Figure 12). During the afternoon rush hour, make sure to arrive early to secure your spot, as buses may fill up quickly (Figure 12).
