I recently traveled to Santa Marta, Colombia, for client meetings and had quite the rollercoaster experience when it came to hotels. I’d like to share both the highs and lows of my stay in hopes of helping others plan their trips more effectively.

⛔ **Blacklist: Hotel Marco Polo Rodadero**
Stay far away from this place! The very first image on their website is of the hotel entrance—a misleading start to what turned out to be a nightmare. I booked through Booking.com, and my credit card bank confirmed that the payment went through successfully.

However, on the second day, the hotel claimed they hadn’t received the room fee and demanded I pay again 💰. One of the front desk staff even threatened to kick me out if I didn’t comply, which felt nothing short of outright extortion. I quickly settled the bill (again) and left as soon as possible, then contacted my bank to cancel the charge and report the fraudulent transaction.

Thankfully, I had the cash payment receipt as evidence. Later, they audaciously reached out asking for a positive review—something I couldn’t in good conscience provide after such an ordeal.

Communication was another major issue. Most of the front desk staff spoke only Spanish, and while I have some knowledge of the language and speak fluent English, understanding them proved incredibly challenging. There was one staff member who spoke decent English and maintained a professional attitude, or else I would have been completely lost.

And let’s talk about sleep—or rather, the lack thereof. The hotel was unbearably noisy, with music blaring from nearby casinos and restaurants until 4 AM 🕔. It was nearly impossible to get a restful night’s sleep. To add insult to injury, there was no hot water for showers. Seeing all those glowing online reviews made me wonder if those people had stayed at the same establishment 😤. Trust me—you don’t want to make the same mistake.

✅ **Red List: Hilton Garden Inn Santa Marta**
Now, here’s where things got much better! My stay at the Hilton Garden Inn was absolutely delightful. The hotel is situated right by the sea, offering breathtaking ocean views anytime you step outside. You can feel the refreshing sea breeze, watch stunning sunrises and sunsets 🌅, and truly immerse yourself in paradise. This is the perfect spot for anyone looking to unwind during their vacation.

For convenience, there’s a currency exchange, coffee shop, and travel agency all within walking distance. If you’re into fitness, the hotel gym is fully equipped, and there’s also a swimming pool and restaurant to cater to your daily needs. Staying here was incredibly comfortable, and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

These are my honest experiences, but of course, everyone’s preferences may vary. When booking a hotel, always check multiple reviews to ensure you find the best fit for your trip. I hope you discover a place that meets your expectations and enjoy a wonderful journey 🥰.
