Day 2: The Big Day (11 hours)
I woke up at 4:30 AM, my heart racing with anticipation.
Because today was the day we would reach the highest point of this trail—4,600 meters above sea level! 🚩
We rose before the first light of dawn, knowing the challenge ahead. Not only was it our first time hiking at such an altitude, but it also meant pushing ourselves to new limits.

To help us cope with the thin air and altitude sickness, we chewed on handfuls of coca leaves along the way. It may sound funny now, but at the time, those leaves were a lifesaver! 😂

Finally, after hours of climbing, we reached the summit. But alas, the sun refused to make an appearance that morning, shrouding the landscape in clouds. As a result, we missed out on the breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic 6,200-meter peak. Instead, all we could hear were the distant “boom boom” sounds of avalanches echoing through the mountains—a reminder of nature’s raw power. Quite the unforgettable experience, if I do say so myself!

Photo 5: A Tree of Peace
This tree, which you’ll often find standing proudly in front of local homes, is truly remarkable. Its enormous flowers resemble giant trumpets, adding a touch of magic to the surroundings. Locals say these blossoms symbolize peace and are used in rituals for blessings and prayers.

Even more fascinating? This tree plays a role in the creation of ayahuasca, a sacred plant medicine traditionally used by indigenous communities. It’s yet another example of how deeply connected this land is to its people and their spiritual practices.
