The hike itself is a short 20-minute climb, and once you reach the top, the reward is a stunning view of the lake. After descending, you can even go boating on the serene waters. Just remember to arrive at the lake by 14:00 to catch the sunlight, which transforms the lake into a dazzling spectacle. 🧠: It’s not often that you meet fellow Chinese travelers in South America, so today was a special day when I met Xiao Yu, who had traveled all the way from Lima. She’s a mutual friend of my WeChat friends, Xiao Qi and Claire. Throughout my travels, I’ve encountered five or six solo female travelers, but it’s rare to find male counterparts—I think I might be one of the few! Xiao Yu brought a delightful assortment of snacks and spicy instant noodles, which was a real treat, especially since we were gearing up for a 7-hour hike to Lake 69 the next day. She suggested we stay overnight in the quaint town of Yungay to avoid the long drive back and forth. Her offer to host me for the night was too good to pass up, and I agreed without a second thought. Upon arriving in Yungay, we were immediately captivated by its charm. The town offered a unique culinary experience with braised chicken feet BBQ, and a bustling night market where we bought strawberries, yellow dragon fruit, and Guanabana for just over 10 RMB. The prices were so low, it almost felt like a dream. Despite intermittent power outages, the night sky was a mesmerizing canvas of stars, leaving us in awe.
Everything truly happens for a reason, and unexpectedly, I fell in love with this place.
