I recently embarked on a business trip to Bangkok, followed by a solo adventure in Penang for two days. On the way to the airport, I struck up a conversation with my driver, who was curious about my impressions of Penang and whether I would return. My answer was an enthusiastic yes! Next time, I plan to stay longer to fully soak in the vibrant colors, laid-back lifestyle, and mouth-watering local cuisine ❤️

✈️ Visa: Enjoy a visa-free experience by filling out your entry information in advance. You’ll receive a PIN code via email, which you need to present upon arrival. When completing the form, select “PULAU PINANG” as your state and use the postal code 11600.

🚕 Transportation: After landing, head to the counter near Gate 3 to register, and the staff will arrange a taxi for you. For getting around the city, Grab is your go-to app for convenient rides.

🏨 Hotel: I highly recommend the Georgetown George Hotel in Penang. It’s not just a place to stay but a destination in itself, with a prime location that puts all major attractions within walking distance. Don’t miss their complimentary afternoon tea set—it’s delightful!

🚶 Route: Start your journey at Kuan Yin Temple, then make your way to the Sun Yat-sen Museum, Ching Yeong Kong Temple, Chew Jetty, Peranakan Mansion, Bank Street, Old Fort Cornwallis Clock Tower, Fort Cornwallis, Marina View, City Hall, State Assembly Building, St. George’s Church, Mural Street, Love Lane, Blue Mansion, and finally, Red Garden. Cap off your day with a scenic trip to Penang Hill 🚖

✅ Recommended Attractions
1️⃣ Sun Yat-sen Museum: Entry is 10MB, and your ticket allows multiple entries on the same day.
2️⃣ Peranakan Mansion: Admission is 25MB. If you’re keen on capturing Peranakan-style photos, you can book a session right at the entrance.
3️⃣ Mural Street: This is a free attraction, but renting a bicycle is highly recommended.

It makes it easier to explore and snap photos at various spots. Finding them on foot can be a bit tricky.
4️⃣ Blue Mansion: Tickets are 25MB. While the most beautiful areas are reserved for hotel guests, there are still plenty of charming spots to visit.
5️⃣ Red Garden: A bustling night market offering a wide array of delicious food.

6️⃣ Penang Hill: Ideal for an evening visit, as the cool breeze and stunning views make it a perfect end to your day. I went on a Tuesday around 5:00 PM, bought a regular round-trip ticket for 30MB, and waited less than 10 minutes in line. If it’s crowded, consider a fast pass for a smoother experience.

❌ Not Recommended Attractions
1️⃣ Fort Cornwallis: At 20MB, it’s a bit underwhelming with not much to see.
2️⃣ Chew Jetty: Just a small wholesale market on the bridge, not particularly noteworthy.
3️⃣ Love Lane: Despite its romantic name, it’s just a street with scorching sun and little charm.
4️⃣ Other places: These are worth a quick stop, but no need to spend money or linger too long.
😋 Food Recommendations
🥯 The Founders Hutton: A must-visit café that even Jay Chou has endorsed, and it truly lives up to the hype.
🍜 Green House Prawn Noodles: A unique and incredibly delicious dish that you won’t want to miss!
🥠 Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih: Even if you’re not a fan of sticky foods, this place is a game-changer. Highly recommend trying K06 (sticky rice + kaya) and K14 (sticky rice + coconut).
☕️ Cafe Little Angle: On a whimsical stroll, I stumbled upon this charming cafe and decided to pop in. I ordered their signature white coffee and the tantalizing Penang Laksa. The Laksa was an absolute delight, with its perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors that left me craving more!
Penang sounds amazing! I love how you explored both food and culture in just two days. The vibrant atmosphere really comes through in your description. Next time, don’t miss the hawker centers—they’re a must!
Thank you for your kind words! I agree, hawker centers are a highlight—don’t miss out on trying asam laksa there! Your enthusiasm is contagious—Penang truly shines when you dive into its food and culture. Thanks for the tip—next time, I’ll make sure to spend more time exploring them!
